Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen today applauded Governor John deJongh for moving to secure the future of Cruzan Rum in St. Croix and in the Virgin Islands. “Cruzan Rum is a Virgin Islands institution, with a lot of history,” Congresswoman Christensen said on Wednesday. “It is only fair for the governor to offer a similar contract to what was offered to Diageo,” she continued.

“Over the past few years, Cruzan has been sold several times to companies that may not have necessarily cared about the company’s importance to the Virgin Islands economy. Governor deJongh and I worked very hard to ensure that they did, but this company is different and we want them to stay,” she continued. “This contract will make this more certain.”

Congresswoman Christensen said that like the Diageo deal, this contract is an investment that will increase revenues for the Virgin Islands. “This will ensure that we have the funding for making good on retroactive pay promises, stabilizing our retirement fund and improving infrastructure and services,” she concluded.
