Christensen Commends Virgin Islands Scouting Programs

(Washington, DC – February 8, 2012) – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen is pleased to congratulate the Boy Scouts of America as the organization celebrates its 102nd national anniversary this week and Girl Scouts of America, which observed its 100th anniversary last week. Congresswoman Christensen expressed her gratitude Wednesday for both organizations, adding that scouting has greatly benefited the Virgin Islands.

Congresswoman Christensen commended the territory’s 400 boy scouts and the Virgin Islands Council Inc. for serving as a guiding force that has helped young people grow into productive, responsible adults. “The Boy Scouts has had such a positive impact on the lives of so many young people and on the community which has benefitted from the countless service projects these young men have carried out,” said Congresswoman Christensen. “I proudly join our nation and the territory in honoring these fine young men.”

The Boy Scouts of America provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. The Scouting organization is composed of 2.7 million youth members between the ages of 7 and 21 and more than a million volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories.

As a former Girl Scout and current member of the Congressional Troupe, Christensen expressed her gratitude for scouting volunteer leaders and their service as positive role models for the youth.
