Christensen Encourages V.I. Middle Schoolers to Apply For West Point STEM Workshop
(Washington, DC – February 10, 2012) – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen is pleased to announce that the United States Military Academy at West Point is accepting applications for a Science, Engineering, Technology and Math (STEM) Workshop this summer.
This unique middle-school program, for rising 7th- and 8th-graders, offers students the opportunity to participate in hands-on STEM activities taught by United States Military Academy faculty, cadet mentors and a team from the National Science Center and is directly in line with the Military Academy’s mission of educating, training and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
The workshop will take place at West Point, N.Y. from May 29 to June 1, 2012, and is very competitive so apply early. The application deadline is March 1, 2012.
In addition, the United States Military Academy and the United State Naval Academy are proud to announce the first-ever Army-Navy Bridge Design Contest. This competition is a special edition of the national West Point Bridge Design Contest, created especially for 6th- and 7th-grade students. The contest provides students with a realistic introduction to engineering through an engaging, hands-on design experience. Participation is FREE. Contestants may compete on behalf of either Army or Navy and can compete individually or in teams of two.
